TPC-KY’s CEO Larry O’Bryan is the Deserving Recipient of the Silent Warrior Award from GE Appliances

Lawrence J. O’Bryan was born in 1959 and raised on a farm in Kentucky by his parents. Both mother and father did not receive a significant amount of education in their youth. They are mainly self-taught individuals. Nonetheless, they made a commitment to make Larry’s life different from their own.

To his parents, education for Lawrence J. O’Bryan was essential.

In 1980, Larry O’Bryan’s parents worked hard, flipping houses. Their goal was to save up enough money so Larry could attend school and receive a proper education.

Thanks to his parents, Lawrence J. O’Bryan went to a prep school that ranked among the top 20 in the nation. After his time at St. Xavier High School, he went on to earn a degree in journalism from Western Kentucky University.

Today, Larry O’Bryan is the owner and CEO of TPC-KY, Inc., a label manufacturer in Louisville, Kentucky.

TPC-KY is the primary label supplier to GE Appliances in North America. The company is also a key partner to Black & Decker, Thornton’s, and other accounts.

Lawrence J. O’Bryan is also the founder of Pro-Active Media. That led him to a successful career as a political media consultant in Louisville, Ky.

O’Bryan attributes much of his success to his parent’s commitment to his education. And recently, Larry’s (and his parents’) many years of hard work have paid off.

Lawrence J. O’Bryan earned recognition at the GE Appliances President’s Council Summit.

The President’s Council Summit is a forum for company leaders. Owners share business objectives and recognize its top-performing suppliers with an award presentation.

This year, Lawrence J. O’Bryan became the recipient of the “Silent Warrior” award. An award that recognizes “outstanding national suppliers. Those who are the best in their field and seamlessly execute on a daily basis.”

Melanie Cook, COO of GE Appliances, described the President’s Council, fittingly. She stated it was “an important venue. (This is where) We align, collaborate, and strengthen partnerships with our suppliers. Partnerships matter. We do better together.”

Lawrence J. O’Bryan graciously accepted the award granted by the President’s Council.

The “Silent Warrior” award acknowledges and honors his excellence in “Outstanding Support.” As a recipient, it exhibits Larry O’Bryan’s dedication to his clients.

With the TPC-KY, Inc. slogan as, “Earning Customer Trust Through Service & Quality,” it goes to show that Larry O’Bryan’s win of this award is well-deserved.

Larry O’Bryan of TPC-KY, Inc. Continues to Invest in New Technologies, Acquires Custom Software to Provide GE Appliances with QR Code Genealogy Tracking

TPC-KY CEO Larry O’Bryan recently committed to new technologies by investing in custom computer software to provide one of his biggest clients, GE Appliances, with QR code genealogy tracking for all U.S. manufactured appliances.

TPC-KY, Inc., a major label manufacturer, and supplier, invests in select new technologies that show promise for improving its efficiencies and the growing company’s recent investment was a no-brainer, Larry O’Bryan said. In today’s fast-paced business environment, investing in technology can propel a company to the head of the pack, he added.

Larry O’Bryan, CEO of TPC-KY, understands that investment in new technologies will not only maintain his growing company’s relevance in the national marketplace but also help assure his current clients that TPC-KY is on the leading edge.

“As a value-added supplier, TPC-KY is proud to offer data management, custom printing software and advanced laser printing technology that is still being used by GE Appliances and many of our other customers,” Larry O’Bryan said.

Pioneering Bar Codes

In 1989, TPC helped pioneer the “barcode age” at GE Appliances by offering custom-designed assembly forms printed on high-quality laser printers to help streamline the production of GE appliances.

The multi-part forms combined up to six individual labels imprinted with bar-coded serial numbers and model numbers used to track production figures at GE’s appliance assembly plant and throughout their North American manufacturing facilities, vastly improving communication and efficiency, while contributing to increased profits.

TPC has enjoyed a solid business relationship with GE Appliances for three decades.

Larry O’Bryan and TPC-KY were honored earlier in 2019 at the annual GE Appliances President’s Council Summit (held in Louisville) with a “Silent Warrior” award, recognizing outstanding national “suppliers who are best in their field and seamlessly execute on a daily basis.”

QR Code Genealogy Tracking

QR (Quick Response) Codes have been around since 1994 – a year or so before the internet took off – although they took longer to gain a footing.

A QR code is a type of barcode that contains a matrix of dots. The QR code, usually about the size of a one-inch square or smaller, can be scanned using a QR scanner or with a smartphone that has a built-in camera, instantly revealing all kinds of information that links to websites, photos, maps and more.

In 2019, a full 30 years since its original collaboration with GE on barcoding, TPC-KY invested in QR Code Genealogy Tracking, an emerging technology that simplifies and integrates manufacturing processes. With a quick scan, operators on the manufacturing line can instantly learn details about an individual product, saving time and money, while improving safety and communication.

Larry O’Bryan Cites His Family’s Sacrifices and Commitment to Education for His Success, as He Expands His Business Profile in Kentucky

Larry O’Bryan wants you to know his story.

A longtime Kentucky political media consultant and strategist, Larry O’Bryan has diversified his professional pursuits in recent years to include a major labeling business, TPC-KY, Inc., to complement Pro-Active Media, a successful political consulting firm he founded.

Larry O'Bryan 2

But Larry O’Bryan reflects affectionately on his strong Catholic upbringing as a formative influence on his current interests.

Parents’ Hard Work and Sacrifice

Born in 1959, Larry O’Bryan grew up in the Highlands in Louisville, Kentucky. The Highlands once was a marginal neighborhood but is now a trendy upscale neighborhood. He learned a strict work ethic from his parents at an early age.

“My father never went to school past seventh grade; my mother finished high school, but they were pretty much self-taught'” O’Bryan said. “They were successful buying old homes in disrepair in marginal neighborhoods in Louisville and my father was the handyman who would turn them into apartments.”

Larry O’Bryan’s parents, Charles and Ramona, toiled tirelessly to help transform a hard-scrabble neighborhood into a popular community and property values escalated. “I worked at the properties with my siblings and that’s how I earned spending money,” O’Bryan said. “They never gave us spending money.”

An Emphasis on Education

Any money his frugal parents could squirrel away was allocated to education, Larry O’Bryan recalled, and he and all of his siblings attended Catholic grade schools and high schools. “I went to St. Xavier High School, an all-male private Catholic school” founded in 1864 in Louisville, O’Bryan said. “It is regularly ranked as one of the top 20 prep high schools in the nation.”

After high school, Larry O’Bryan attended and graduated from Western Kentucky University double major in government and journalism. “My parents made sure all five children went to college, too,” he added. “I know this education and the commitment my parents made for us is a major reason for my successes in life.”

Giving Back

The sacrifices of Charles and Ramona, who passed away in the mid-2000s a year apart, inspired their son. “It’s a major reason I have given back,” Larry O’Bryan said. Larry O’Bryan is the sole donor and has established an endowment at St. Xavier High School to assist young men who cannot otherwise afford to attend.

Larry O’Bryan said Charles’ military service in France and Germany during World War II motivated him to donate to the Salvation Army. “We just made a donation to the Salvation Army for hurricane relief,” Larry O’Bryan said. “I also donate to Catholic Charities every year because that was my mother’s favorite charity.”

Today, Larry O’Bryan dedicates much of his time to TPC-KY, Inc., which supplies labels for major manufacturers, including GE Appliances – TPC-KY recently won a Silent Warrior award from the GE President’s Council in recognition of its outstanding support for GE Appliances. TPC projects record growth in 2019. In addition, TPC-KY is a key partner with Black & Decker, Thornton’s and several other regional and national accounts.

Larry O’Bryan also founded Pro-Active Media, leading to a successful career as a political media consultant and strategist in Louisville, Ky. He helped defeat a four-term incumbent state senator in Jefferson County in 2010, along with claiming three judgeships.

O’Bryan delivered again in 2012, providing the winning media for two judges. O’Bryan also produced the aggressive television spots that secured state Sen. Perry Clark’s election against his much better-funded opponent.

As the first local political media consultant to produce and air political ads in hi-definition, Larry O’Bryan remains on the leading edge of campaign technology. O’Bryan began his career working in the 1980 Kentucky General Assembly during Gov. John Y. Brown’s administration and for the Kentucky Democratic Party in 1982.
